43. Hunahpu's Day - March 9th, 2013

The 4th Annual Hunahpu's Day Release Party is set for Saturday, March 9th at Cigar City Brewing. This will also be the 2nd time Hunahpu's Day has been featured for Tampa Bay Beer Week.

Gates will open at 7:50am. Draft beer will start pouring at 9:00am. Breakfast will be made available when the gates open.

There will be several food trucks on site throughout the day. The full list of food trucks and vendors will be available soon.

There will be no parking at Cigar City Brewing on March 8th and 9th. Instead there is a lot across the street at 4005 W. Spruce Street. There will be signs indicating where to park. That means the Friday before Hunahpu's Day there will be no parking at Cigar City. This will give us plenty of time to set-up and make sure everything goes as smooth as possible for Hunahpu's Day.

To receive your bottles of Hunahpu's Imperial Stout, you will need to get a wristband at the entrance of the festival. You will be ID'd as well, and you will receive an additional wristband indicating you are 21+ years of age. The wristbands are ABSOLUTELY required for purchase of Hunahpu's bottles and will be cut off of your wrist by an employee upon purchase. If you lose it we are very sorry but this is non-negotiable. Wristbands are handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies last, limited one per person.

Bottles of Hunahpu's Imperial Stout are 750mL (25.4 FL OZ), and will be sold for $20, CASH ONLY. Bottles will be sold at 3 locations in the lot.

There will be a 3 bottle limit for the first 4,000 guests. They will receive a special wristband. The next 1,000 guests will be limited to 2 bottles and will receive a different wristband. You can only have one type of wristband.

Bottle sales will start when the last wristband is given out, or at 12:00pm, whichever comes first. At 5:00pm, sales will open up to the general public with a limit of one case (12 bottles) per person. If you have a wristband, you are ONLY guaranteed your bottles until 5:00pm!

We are going to sell special tokens for $5 a piece. These tokens will be good for ANY purchase on Hunahpu's Day, excluding food trucks and non-affiliated vendors. This means you can use a $5 token to purchase any beer, bottle, merchandise, etc., of equal value, inside the tasting room and outside. So in essence, a $5 token is equivalent to a $5 bill. There will be several booths selling tokens scattered around the lot.

There will be more draft beer stations available than last year. We're going to feature many guest beers and plenty of special beers from us. A full draft list will probably not be available until the week of Hunahpu's Day.

Live music will start at 11:00am. There will be several bands throughout the day. A full list will be announced soon.

ANGEL TREE FOR HOPE CHILDREN’S HOME

Hope Children's Home

11415 Hope International Drive

TAMPA, FL 33625 United States

(813) 961-1214

www.hopechildrenshome.org

About Hope Children's Home

For over 40 years, they’ve been helping discarded, abused, unwanted, or orphaned children, nearly 5000 in all. Founded in 1968, Hope Children's Home has rescued nearly 5,000 children between the ages of 2 and 18. Some of them have faced life situations that you can’t imagine...

They’re located in Tampa on 55 beautifully wooded acres of land with dormitories for the boys and girls that can house a total of 80 children. Hope Christian School is also located on the property and is accredited by the state of Florida, providing a private, quality education to each of the children, Nursery through 12th grade.

Hope Children’s Home receives no State or Federal funding. The children live in both dorms and cottages with a family atmosphere that provides guidance and encouragement.

Our goal is to help as many children there as possible by having our employees, distributors, and patrons join us in helping to “adopt an angel” and fulfill a few of their Christmas wish items.

Here’s how it works:

  • Select an Angel’s name from the tree in the brewery or via this spreadsheet.

  • Obtain that child’s wish list of items (1 to 5 items…. However you can help is appreciated)

  • Purchase, wrap, and bring the item(s) to the brewery by close of business, Tuesday, Dec 18th (please don’t forget to label EACH item & bag(s) for your specific angel with their name). This can be done anomalously or you can include a card addressed to your angel-child…

  • The brewery will ensure that all gifts are delivered to the Hope Children’s home in time by 12/20/12

38. Tasting Room Expansion

Uncategorized 0 Comments

We have some terrific news to announce. With the new wet zoning in place, we are ready to expand our tasting room big time!

The new expanded tasting room will be double, possibly even three times the size as the current one.

More space = more people = more beer.

We will be installing an additional bar at the end of the new expanded tasting room with 20-24 new taps. In addition, we will be installing two permanant hand pull cask engines, meaning two cask beers on at all times. This brings us to a grand total of 46-50 beers on tap at all times.

The original bar area will be more of a sales point for to-go purchases, and our goal is to have all 24 beers on tap there available for growler fills. The merchandise area will be greatly expanded as well.

The goal is to have the new expanded tasting room open by November. What this also means is that big special events like Fruit in the Room may have to be pushed back until the new expansion is complete.

This means we also have the space for some more...interesting ideas. Here is a clue to one possibility...

Let's take you through the expansion now.

---Here is the current end of the tasting room. The painted door will be removed and will be a permanant entrance to the new tasting room. Let's go through the open "Employees Only" door now.

---Here is what is left of co-founder Joe Redner's office. There will be a lot of room in here for seating and such.

---The restrooms that are currently only open to employees now (directly to the right of this picture) will now be accessible by tasting room patrons. No more going out to the brewery to use the facilities.

---A look at how wide open it is from the entrance of the new tasting room. All of these cubicle walls are being torn down. Against this left wall is where the new bar will be. The wall is lined up directly against our large tasting room cooler, making it easier for us to pour beer for you thirsty folks.

---We want more seats and such along this area. More tables. More room. In the back is an old cubicle that will be a banquet area for small private functions.

---This wall is closing off the tasting room from the rest of the office area. More privacy for the banquet area, too.

---One last look at the whole area. The wall at the end is the current stop to the tasting room.

We're absolutely stoked for this to happen. We're pretty confident you folks will be as well. Stay tuned for more updates as things progress!

IPA Day is tomorrow, Thursday, August 2nd! We're tapping a whole mess of IPA's for it in our tasting room. Here's what we're tapping at 11am when the tasting room opens:

- Jai Alai IPA
- Blueberry IPA
- Cucumber IPA
- Galaxy IPA (dry-hopped with Galaxy hops)
- Guava Apple Cinnamon IPA
- Humidor Series IPA
- Humidor Series Peach IPA
- Jaiway to Helles IPA (Jai Alai blended with Hotter Than Helles Lager with a special hop blend)
- Juniper IPA
- Mango IPA
- Orange Wood IPA
- Papaya IPA
- Peach IPA
- Raspberry IPA
- Smoked IPA
- Swordfight IPA (aged on Spanish cedar and white oak)
- Tangerine Ginger IPA
- Tropical White Oak IPA (aged on strawberries, banana, pineapple and white oak)
- Twig 'n' Berries (aged on juniper berries and Spanish cedar)
- Firkin of White Oak Jai Alai IPA

In addition, expect to see these beers make it on throughout the day at some point.

- Apricot IPA
- Humidor Series Maple Bourbon IPA
- Mango Habanero IPA
- Orange Wood Pineapple IPA

We're not going to be growlering ANY of these IPA's aside from Jai Alai, so we'll keep on some other beers for growler folks:

- Hotter Than Helles Lager
- Maduro Brown Ale
- Tocobaga Red Ale

Also we couldn't figure out a cool way to do nitro IPA's so our nitro taps are still pouring:

- Minaret ESB
- Puppy's Breath Porter

It's going to be a fun, hoppy day. See everyone at the tasting room, 11am sharp!

A COMPLETE vertical of the 110K+OT series, including barrel-aged Batch 2 and one of only 20 bottles of Batch 1, a beer we never actually released. All proceeds from the auction are going to the LUNGevity Foundation, a great group that assists those with and who have been affected by lung cancer.

35. New tours calendar

We've officially added brewery tours on Sundays now. In addition we've moved up the 11am tours to 11:30am so our staff can have everything ready when the tasting room opens.

We've also changed our tour scheduling software and we feel it's much more intuitive! Check it out here:

http://cigarcitybrewing.com/index.php?option=com_registrationpro&view=calendar&Itemid=48

As always, tours are $5, and price includes a full-fledged brewery tour by a professional tour guide, a pint of beer of your choice and you get to keep the pint glass itself. It's one of the best deals going.
