Wiregrass Post-Prohibition Ale

Post-Prohibition Ale

Did you know?

Growing up in Alabama, our brewmaster Wayne Wambles was a criminal. Aside from petty theft and the occasional assault and battery, the main offense on Wayne’s rap sheet was homebrewing beer in his home state. The Yellowhammer State had statutes on the books outlawing homebrewing dating back to the time just after Prohibition, for what reasons we can only speculate. That all changed on May 9th, 2013, when Alabama governor Robert Bentley signed the legislation that legalized homebrewing in the state, making his the last state in the union to do so.

To celebrate this historic occasion, Wayne collaborated with his friends at Folklore Brewing and MOOLA Homebrew Club of Alabama in 2013 to brew a Post-Prohibition style of beer and we continue that tradition each year. This unique ale combines elements of an American Pre-Prohibition Pilsner (namely corn, a traditional ingredient in beer in the early 20th century) and an American IPA (namely hops, of which we use five different varietals).

Tasting Notes

Distinct aromas of lemongrass, berries and and mint leaves from a unique blend of experimental hops dominates the nose. A full body of bready malt and light corn sweetness provides a perfect compliment to hop flavors and a moderate bitterness, while the whole package finishes dry, clean and refreshing.
